Community Programs
At Play It Forward Music Foundation, we believe that everyone should have access to quality music education, instruments, and opportunities to perform regardless of background, race, religion, language or orientation. By including everyone in music, communities pave the way for people to form connections, to listen, and build respect through the shared experience of sound. Play it Forward Music Foundation’s community initiatives have had a positive impact on the community. We work to bring music to people who would not otherwise have access including those who exist at the margins of society.
Play it Forward Music Foundation hosts a variety of activities and services throughout Sonoma County from showcasing the talents of budding musicians to fostering a sense of community through music.
Music Mondays
Play It Forward Music Foundation hosts a weekly singing group called “Music Mondays” at The Life Center for women and children who are at-risk of, or currently experiencing homelessness. An amazing list of female performers provide a free concert and commit to volunteer hours each week. Children at the day center are engaged in an interactive music class, led through song, rhythm and instrument exploration. Through this program our featured musicians offer families humanity and comfort during moments of distress.

Venue & Festival Collaborations

Play it Forward Music Foundation’s partners with The Railroad Square Music Festival, The Lost Church, and the Phoenix Theater to provide students and amateur musicians the opportunity to showcase their talents in concerts, open-mic events, and live performances on stage. These collaborations have provided valuable opportunities for aspiring musicians to develop their musical and performance skills and pursue their passion for music while connecting to a greater musical community.
The Porch Fest
The Porch Fest Concert Series: Play it Forward Music Foundation helped local musicians and performers generate revenue during the Covid-19 pandemic, by organizing live-streamed porch concerts. This initiative not only supported the local music community but also helped to unite the community during a time of isolation and uncertainty.

The Living Room

Play it Forward Music Foundation orchestrated weekly singing performances for women experiencing crisis and homelessness at The Living Room Day Center for Women and Children. Children at the day center were engaged in an interactive music class, led through song, rhythm and instrument exploration.
