The Founders
In 2016, Nick Simmons and Dave Silva founded Play It Forward Music Foundation as a non-profit organization dedicated to providing music education and performance opportunities to underserved individuals and communities in Sonoma County. Their experience as private music teachers has been invaluable in shaping the foundation’s programs and services, which are designed to meet the diverse needs and interests of the community.
Under Nick and Dave’s leadership, Play It Forward Music Foundation has become a vital part of the Santa Rosa community, providing high-quality music education and performance services to individuals of all ages and backgrounds. They are passionate about music and its ability to inspire and connect people, and they are dedicated to making sure that everyone has access to the transformative power of music.
The grassroots involvement of our founders is critical to Play It Forward Music Foundation’s success. Nick and Dave are deeply connected to the community they serve, and play active roles, ensuring the foundation’s programs and services are relevant and effective in promoting connection and wellbeing through music.
Nick Simmons, Founder
Nick Simmons, a co-founder of the Play It Forward Music Foundation, has a strong educational background in music. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Music from Sonoma State University. Nick has performed and recorded as a solo artist and performed with various bands at many concerts & festivals including Bottle Rock, the Strawberry Festival, Vina Robles, SOMO, The Mountain Winery, Ashkanaz, World Fest and the Fillmore Jazz Festival. Nick has been a private music teacher for over 20 years, sharing his knowledge and love of music with students of all ages and skill levels.
Dave Silva, Founder
Dave Silva, a co-founder of the Play It Forward Music Foundation, has been playing music for the last 25 years and teaching for the past twelve. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Music Composition and Performance from Chico State University. Dave has performed as a solo artist and alongside others including The North State Symphony, and Karen Joy Brown at various concerts and venues including The Worldfest in Nevada City. Dave’s extensive experience as a musician, performer, and educator has been instrumental in shaping the foundation’s programs and services.
